about

I don't do much co-writing. It's not a strict rule or a principle or anything- I just tend to work alone. This one's an exception, though; my dear friend Jack Piatt had some good lyrics that I nudged a little bit here and there, put to music, and sang. We sent my demo to Island Styles, who re-recorded it from the ground up on the East Coast with some of his talented friends. Chloe Kat and I recorded the vocals at Dan Sadin's Ojai, CA studio, and I added a guitar solo I cut in my apartment. This is the end result- kind of a mashup of Otis Redding and 90s rock, if you will. We all hope you dig it.

lyrics

I never meant to meet you
I was somewhere else in my mind
I never meant to see you
The way I did that night
And now I can’t breathe right
To coin a cliche
But baby I don’t know
What else to say
You took my wind
And you ran away
Ran away

Left my heart at war with my brain
Knowin’ there’s there’s no way to win without you
I’m raisin’ pain
Raisin’ pain

Left alone and raisin’ pain
Left alone and raisin’ pain
There’s no way to win without you
It’s not enough to think about you
Raisin’ pain

So please explain to me
How to raise this ache you bring
It just won’t leave me be
But maybe
Maybe I can teach it to sing
Singin’ La da da da
La da da da
La da da da da
La da da da da
Da da da da
Da Da

You left my heart at war with my brain
Knowin’ there’s no way to win without you
I’m raisin’ pain
Raisin’ pain

Left alone and raisin’ pain
Left alone and raisin’ pain
There’s no way to win without you
It’s not enough to think about you
In the rain
Left alone and raisin’ pain
Left alone and raisin’ pain
And there’s no way to win without you
It’s not enough to think about you
Raisin’ pain
No, there’s no way to win without you
It’s not enough to think about you
Raisin’ pain
Don’t you know I’m Raisin’ Pain

about

Tod Weidner Ojai, California

One of those singer/songwriter types your mama warned you about, Tod Weidner has embarked upon a long awaited solo career after decades as a fixture on the Ohio music scene. Tod founded and led Dayton mainstays Shrug and was a member of Motel Beds and many other notable groups, to boot. He serves up songs with the ragged, passionate musical heart of a rocker and the wordsmithery of a Beat poet. ... more
